LYMAS Closing Events in Berlin

As the LYMAS project comes to an end, final events took place in Berlin on October 23 and 24.

On the evening of October 23, the short films produced during the participatory filmmaking workshop were presented at SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA. A total of 13 short films, with a combined duration of two hours, were screened, followed by a Q&A session.

During the discussion, filmmaker and workshop instructor Sezen Kayhan, together with audience members, posed questions to the young filmmakers who had travelled from Switzerland, Poland, and Austria. The participants shared their experiences from the workshop, reflected on the filmmaking process, and spoke about their possible future aspirations in filmmaking. Some participants were unfortunately unable to attend in person due to visa-related challenges, despite their wish to do so.

The films presented a variety of styles and creative ideas, encouraged by the project’s commitment to creative freedom. At the same time, many of the films were connected by recurring themes such as home, longing or creativity which made the experience of watching them together especially insightful.

On October 24, an academic workshop took place at event location Refugio. Researchers from the four project sites each presented a paper, followed by discussions.

The workshop was framed by two keynote lectures. Helma Lutz opened the academic program with a presentation on the working conditions of care migrants, and Adam Mrozowicki offered further insights by discussing the life strategies of workers during polycrisis, before the event concluded with closing remarks. The joint reflections were enriched by contributions from both research colleagues and the young filmmakers.

The two-day event ended with an informal gathering, offering an opportunity for further conversations between the research team and the film workshop participants.
