IRIS Conference in Birmingham

September 2024 was a busy month in the project. While one part of the LYMAS Team participated in the VW Foundations Symposium on “Potentials and Challenges for Europe“ in Hannover, another part presented ongoing research at the IRIS International Conference in Birmingham. This year’s conference addressed issues of the “Bordering Society. Understanding and Reimagining Migration, Displacement and Diversity in an Age of Rapid Transformation”. Emmanuel Charmillot (University of Neuchâtel) gave a presentation on “Filling labour shortages in aging societies through international mobility? Ethics and governance of migration in the Swiss case.”. Johanna Bastian (DeZIM Institute, Berlin) engaged with the question: “What makes a labour migrant? Young migrants positioning in neoliberal work and life worlds”.
