On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, a LYMAS event took place during the annual Sustainability Week at the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI), where the Austrian LYMAS team is based. The event, titled“Moving Stories – Young Migration in the Spotlight of Sustainability,”took the form of a bike-powered cinema.
What set this screening apart was its innovative energy source – electricity generated entirely by pedal power. Audience members took turns cycling on four stationary bikes to produce the energy required for the event, offering an interactive and environmentally conscious cinema experience.
The program showcased seven short films created by young participants who were part of LYMAS’ filmmaking project. These films were developed during participatory filmmaking workshops held in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, and Poland, under the guidance of filmmaker and visual researcher Dr. Sezen Kayhan. Participants conceptualized, directed, and edited the films independently.
The resulting works explore the complex intersections of migration, sustainability, and social justice in ageing societies. The screening was followed by a panel discussion featuring the attending filmmakers, during which audience members engaged in an exchange of questions and reflections.
